1. WWF Becomes WWE - 06/05/02

Many will surely disagree with this at the top of the list, but for fans of a certain generation this was a monumental moment. For years we had grown up with the World Wrestling Federation, the WWF. Like the sun, the moon and the stars, the WWF was going to be around forever.

Of course, nothing lasts forever. In 2002 the World Wrestling Federation lost a lawsuit in the UK against the damn panda-lovin' World Wide Fund for Nature, and instead of going through further legal wrangling the decision was made to drop the F. The WWF became the WWE, and everything changed forever.

Wrestling hadn't been about wrestling for a long time, but the addition of 'Entertainment' into the company name indicated something of an abandonment of it. Sports Entertainment it was, and an entire profession was belittled. It took a lot of time to get used to. Many non-fans of the same generation are still ignorant to the change, referring to it still as the WWF.

The episode itself holds nothing too impressive, but for a fan born in the 1980s the first RAW of the post-WWF era will always be a landmark moment.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
