20 Things We Learned From Joe Rogan's Podcast Interview With Jake Roberts

1. Savage Was Paranoid That The Snake Was A Conspiracy

Before the pair were able to do the stunt, Randy fancied a little talk behind the curtain.

A particularly paranoid dude, Savage was worried that the snake hadn't been de-venomised. To him, it was entirely plausible that Jake Roberts was hatching some sort of conspiracy to take him out so he could be Intercontinental Champion. It wasn't, obviously, but that didn't stop Randy from fretting.

Backstage, he wanted Jake to prove that his snake wasn't poisonous. The only way to do that was to have Roberts lift up his trouser leg and let the animal bite his own flesh. That had to be excruciatingly painful, especially without the pep of adrenaline pouring down from a live crowd in the arena.

Roberts did it to prove a point, then quietly promised to himself that Randy would get it good during that night's taping. It's insane that Jake had to let his own prop bite him hard so Savage would believe he'd do business and not try to pull a fast one to get Mach out of the picture.
