20 WCW Easter Eggs, References And In-Jokes You Never Noticed
6. "Only In WCW In-Joke" Kevin Nash Mentions ECW As WCW's Top Competition On WCW Commentary...And Nothing Comes Of It
In another "only in WCW" moment that deserves mention on this list, during a 1997 edition of WCW Monday Nitro, the New World Order are in the commentary booth and decide to "bury" their old employer by mentioning that the true "number two" promotion was the "barbed wire city company" that "ran in bingo halls." No, this wasn't immediately followed up by some sort of smartly executed ECW versus NWO cross-promotional angle. It was instead a moment of Hall and Nash being "too cool for school" on WCW's watch, and had the "locker room mole" Tod Gordon story been true, the idea of Hall and Nash's comments potentially leading to an entertaining series of matches between signed ECW wrestlers siding with WCW and the New World Order, it would've been impressive. Instead, it's one of those moments when WCW could've doubled or tripled the length of their lead over the WWF, but didn't.
