20 Worst WWE Tag Team Champions Ever

6. Ric Flair And "Rowdy" Roddy Piper

To say the tag team division on the Raw brand in 2006 was weak would be an understatement of massive proportions. Kane and Big Show, two singles stars, held the titles to kick off the year before being knocked off by a faction of male cheerleaders. By the time the fall rolled around, the Spirit Squad had been champions for six months, retaining them largely thanks to the lack of quality competition on the show. With the desire to write off the band of obnoxious young men, but no worthy contenders prime to dethrone them, WWE Creative turned to two legendary stars to do their dirty work. Ric Flair and Roddy Piper partnered to defeat the Spirit Squad. Yes, two performers clearly past their prime (by a lot) defeated young stars the company seemingly considered the future of the business. The win occurred at Cyber Sunday, a pay-per-view determined via fan vote. While the visual of the two Hall of Famers celebrating their victories was fun for those who remembered them from their heydays, the fact of the matter was that they did not belong anywhere near the tag titles. They lost them in short order, just eight days after winning them, to Edge and Randy Orton. Flair and Piper held the titles for no other reason than to serve as transitional champions, to get the belts off of the cheerleaders and onto Rated RKO and that helps the aged veterans land so high on this list.
