20 WWE Wrestlers Who Hated Each Other In Real Life
4. Chyna & Stephanie McMahon
One of the most personal backstage rivalries in WWE history, Chyna and Stephanie’s issues became apparent back in 2001. Chyna and Triple H started dating one another in 1996, and the relationship lasted until 2000, when, according to Chyna, Triple H started seeing Stephanie McMahon behind her back.
This caused unimaginable backstage tension between the trio, and while Chyna remained in the company until November 2001 (after a few months sitting at home) it all came to light shortly afterwards. Chyna claimed that she was made aware of the situation following a meeting with Vince McMahon, who (predictably) refused to take her side on the situation. A few hours later, Chyna received a fax telling her that her services were no longer required and that she’d been released.
The story has been contradicted on a number of times, even from Chyna herself. In a 2002 interview with The Baltimore Sun, she changed her story to state that the affair had nothing to do with her departure, and that she left WWE to pursue an acting career. Jim Ross has corroborated this, referring to Chyna’s termination as a “mutual decision”.
Given the depth of some of Chyna’s accounts, however, it’s hard not to believe her initial story. Claiming that WWE not only turned her co-workers against her, but had her blacklisted by multiple entertainment companies following her release, Chyna held Stephanie McMahon (and Triple H) responsible for the demise of her professional career.
