Ricky Steamboat is remembered by many fans as a selfless worker who was, unfortunately, about a decade ahead of his time. Had he came of age in the mid-'90s, like Shawn Michaels, or even perhaps the early 2000s, like Rey Mysterio or Rob Van Dam, he could maybe have been a huge, era-defning star.

Alas, his stage was the 1980s body-builder era, where (relatively) small high-flyers were largely viewed as novelties. The 'Dragon' just wasn't main event material in the eyes of Vince McMahon, despite a string of show-stealing matches, including one of the all-time great WrestleMania encounters against Randy Savage in 1987 (which many modern-day wrestlers have cited as the one that inspired them to take up the sport).

Having said all of that, though, he still maintained an incredible record in the ring, having racked up 69 wins out of 88 matches for a win rate of about 81%. We just wish a few more of those victories had come in matches which ended the show instead of opened them.
