2016 Royal Rumble Match For The WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Roman Reigns will defend his title against 29 Superstars...

Vince McMahon took to the mic at the end of last night's episode of RAW to reveal a major change to this year's Royal Rumblewith the news that Roman Reigns will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Title in the 30-man match later this month. The Big Dog retained his WWE title against Sheamus on RAW in a match that McMahon himself officiated. The boss had previously promised that Reigns would not leave the arena in San Antonio, Texas with the strap, although it's now clear that he's happy for Roman to reign until the end of the month at least. Traditionally, the winner of the Rumble would go on to the main event of WrestleMania and challenge for the top title, but the last man standing in this year's match will claim the title as their own. Reigns has professed it's one against all in recent times, and after this stipulation was revealed, it's clear that never has a truer word been said. The title being on the line in the Rumble match has only happened once before - in 1992, which saw the vacant title up for grabs with winner Ric Flair taking the gold home. As well as this major announcement ending the show, a whole host of other Superstars were announced as part of the Rumble match. Reigns (C), Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan, Luke Harper, Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler and Ryback were all confirmed for the over the top rope spectacular, joining The Big Show and Curtis Axel. To top all that off, Chris Jericho returned on RAW to confirm his place in the Rumble. Before McMahon had announced that shocking stipulation, Jericho interrupted The New Day and claimed that he would win the match and head on to the main event of WrestleMania 32. Of course, now we know if he does win the match, Y2J will be the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
