With exactly zero matches announced, Ring Of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling did the absolutely unthinkable, selling out Madison Square Garden in just under an hour of tickets for their G1 Supercard show going on sale.

The joint promotions' incursion onto WWE's hallowed turf must have caused apoplexy in the head office of Titan Towers, the company having failed to sell out their spiritual home for years.

Even more impertinent was the fact the card was being held in the city over WrestleMania week - both as a means of capitalising on the in-town buzz of WWE's supershow, but also an oblique way to thumb the nose in the direction of Vince's apparent hegemony. In response, WWE switched the date of the scheduled NXT TakeOver with the Hall of Fame - only to have a change of heart in early December.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
