This is a champion vs. champion match that’s often ignored due to the distasteful angle it was a part of. I am of course talking about the infamous Katie Vick story, but the less about that the better….

The match itself saw World champ Triple H face Intercontinental champ Kane at No Mercy 2002. It was Triple H who emerged victorious, helping himself to his fifth and final Intercontinental title reign.

The match itself was good enough, but it was completely overshadowed by the subsequent main event between Brock Lesnar and the Undertaker inside of Hell in a Cell.

In unifying the two titles though, the Intercontinental Championship was consigned to inactivity for approximately seven months. But when it did finally return, it did so in emphatic fashion. None other than Stone Cold Steve Austin—co-General Manager at the time—announced that the title would return in a battle royal at Judgement Day, featuring an exclusive array of former champions.
