22 Things We Learned From Big Show On Talk Is Jericho

18. Growing Up As A Giant

Jericho asks if he was always big, and Show replies that on his first driver's license he was 6'9", 251 pounds. Chris asks how it was growing up being so much bigger. Show says that it was difficult and he would often get ostracized, and tells a story about the first time he was playing football he ran through a wall of kids and a drunk mom came onto the field, threw a cup of beer in his face and called him a "mongoloid." He says he went through puberty at about ten years of age, but adds that he was normal sized when he was born. He reflects on his ninth birthday, being outside and swinging on the wire of a metal clothesline poll, wishing that he would grow up to be big and strong. Then a decade later when they discovered the tumor that causes acromegaly, the doctor pointed out that he'd probably developed it when he was nine or ten, and that's always stuck with him. He jokes that he should have made a much better birthday wish.
