16. Unforgiven 2006

The rivalry between John Cena and Edge dominated the Raw brand in 2006, elevating both Superstars in the eyes of fans and establishing them as the undisputed future of the company. One month prior to Unforgiven in September, the Rated R Superstar used a pair of brass knuckles to achieve victory over Cena in the main event of SummerSlam. That match took place in Cena's hometown of Boston and proved to be anything but a happy ending. With their much-anticipated rematch occurring in Toronto, hometown of the champion, and carrying the Tables, Ladders and Chairs stipulation, it appeared as though the odds were stacked heavily in Edge's favor. But would Cena's never-say-die attitude propel him over the opportunistic, cunning and villainous champion? Trish Stratus' legendary career came to an end in front of her friends and family as she challenged the hated Lita, her greatest rival, for the WWE Women's Championship. With emotions high, she turned in another phenomenal performance that reaffirmed her position as the most celebrated female performer of all-time and was given a lovely send-off to boot. Carlito faced the toughest challenge of his career as he battled Randy Orton, D-Generation X's rivalry with the McMahons culminated in a Hell in a Cell match and Jeff Hardy returned to pay-per-view in an intercontinental title bout against Johnny Nitro, rounding out what was a phenomenal card and one of the best of the year.
