How do you respond to your biggest rivals bringing in arguably the hottest performer on the planet just a day before your biggest event of the year? Spam your own "highly anticipated return" button, of course!

Sure enough, one night removed from the Chick Magnet's comeback, WWE laced two jaw-dropping appearances into the Biggest Party of the Summer, with Becky Lynch returning to bury the company's most adored organic babyface and Brock Lesnar staring down The Tribal Chief before dumping John Cena on his neck for old time's sake.

A colossal Allegiant stadium SummerSlam wasn't just all about those one-off pops, however, and for every shot of Bobby Lashley crushing a child in his clutches, there was an Edge/Rollins banger which reminded us what this crazy world is actually all about. But for those who enjoy scintillating bell-to-bell action, as Tuesday night's own colour commentator would put it, we're afraid we've got some bad news for you.

Sunday's NXT TakeOver 36 may have marked the beginning of a dark new era for the once-wrestling-centric black and gold brand as "a complete revamp" of the developmental show looks set to slap us in the face in the coming weeks. But if this was the NXT as we once knew it's last hurrah, then having Ilja Dragunov and WALTER kill each other and the rest of the card well and truly deliver the goods wasn't a bad way to go out.

Above all else, SummerSlam weekend feels like WWE's version of hitting the rest button after an often frustrating and surreal year-and-a-half both inside and outside of the company's walls. But just who stole the biggest week of the year for Vince McMahon's empire on Instagram? He may have been on the losing side on Saturday night, but Super Cena is still unde-Insta-feated...
