25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2021
24. Demon Finn Balor Thwarted By The Top Rope. Or God.
Despite the bar for quality being relatively low, Extreme Rules was one of WWE's better PLEs in 2021. However, after a bunch of fun matches, the night's main event between WWE Champion Roman Reigns and 'Demon' Finn Balor descended into the trademark ridiculousness that made this such a bad year for wrestling's biggest promotion.
As the match headed towards its end, and with both Reigns and Balor broken on the floor outside the ring, the lights inside the Nationwide Arena in Cleveland, Ohio turned red. Spooky shenanigans were about to happen as Balor's music started to play. Finn twitched along to the heartbeat at the start of the music like a fish out of water, before rising to his feet like The Undertaker in his prime.
Balor started to hit Reigns with a chair, put him through a table, rolled him into the ring, and climbed to the top rope to set up a Coupe de Grace. Divine intervention then came into play, as the top rope gave way. and Balor fell to the canvas. Roman then hit the spear to retain his title, as Extreme Rules went off the air. No explanation was ever given as to why Finn's music suddenly gave him rejuvinative powers, or why the rope broke to stop him in his tracks, as fans were left to make their own minds up as to whether or not God himself ended Finn Balor's title challenge.
