3 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Royal Rampage (July 21)

1. Decent Powerhouse Main Event

Kris Statlander Marina Shafir
AEW

Marina Shafir has become a Rampage punching bag, but that's OK. The heel somehow retains some credibility due to her MMA background, and the announcers regularly do a solid job of hyping that up. Besides, she matched up well against a powerhouse like Kris Statlander.

Both worked a tidy main event.

The match will be forgotten about by the time Collision goes on the air, but it was a fine addition to the Rampage lineup and a worthy send off for the show. Statlander gave Shafir just enough to keep things interesting, and this was her seventh successful TBS Title defence in a row (at least according to Excalibur).

A few more title scraps like this will do Kris the world of good, and it's great to see her return from various injuries in this kind of form. Next challenge for Tony Khan: Line up a banging heel who's vicious, and then develop a compelling story that peaks on pay-per-view.

GO!
