3 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Rampage (Dec 25)
1. Merry Xmas (Here’s A Title Change)
Fans in attendance for the dual Dynamite/Rampage 'Holiday Bash' tapings didn't like that Cody Rhodes TNT Title win one bit. They booed the crap out of him (that's been a recurring theme), so AEW are gonna have to pull the trigger on his full-blown heel turn at some point.
Interestingly, reports from the post-show revealed that Rhodes cut a heel-style promo once the cameras stopped rolling. He then did some business with Hook (more on that later) and posed with the title. The problem here is that his TNT Title victory reeked of someone backstage saying, 'Aw sh*te - we'd best stick something meaningful on Rampage'.
It was a title change for the sake of it, in other words.
Now, don't get this writer wrong. The match Guevara and Cody had was lively and fun, but the end result felt forced because it's Christmas rather than organic. AEW are head butting a brick wall by pretending that they can salvage Rhodes' character in its current state too.
Heel turn, please.
