In the early days of WrestleMania, you needed a major draw to make the event feel special. While Hulk Hogan clearly was that guy in the first few years, Randy Savage was a close second, and even overshadowed Hogan at time. Savage was the entire story of WrestleMania IV, winning four matches en route to becoming WWF Champion. Its a feat that hasnt been matched since. Savage also defended his Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania II before losing it in one of the greatest matches in Mania history at III against Ricky Steamboat. He would lose his world title to Hogan at WrestleMania V, win the belt at VIII from Ric Flair and lose a fantastic retirement match against Ultimate Warrior at Mania VII. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaUsMv0xmgA Macho Man was an integral part of the success of WWF and WrestleMania in its early years. Without him, who knows whether they would have been as successful?
