18. Big Show As Champ Was A Step Down

The Rock Stone Cold Steve Austin
WWE

The way Big Show debuted was shoot-y and strange. He accidentally helped Austin beat Vince in the main event cage, but commentary referred to the WCW incomer by his real name for a spell. Paul Wight sounded more like the guy next door than some hyper-charged badass giant wrestler.

By the end of 1999, Show was WWF Champ but very much secondary behind the ongoing power struggle between Triple H and McMahon. His hasty win at Survivor Series then dire feud opposite Big Boss Man did nothing to squash suggestions Show was already a federation flop.

He was a visible step down from the likes of Rock, Austin and Mankind as champion.
