4 Things WWE Must Do With Bad News Barrett's King Of The Ring Victory
2. Play Up The Achievement
The Intercontinental title reigns of Bad News Barrett, like most other midcard title reigns in recent history, have not amounted to much. The WWE needs to give us a reason to believe that the King of the Ring is different than anything he's won before, and that this won't be another meaningless midcard prize. If they fail to do that, then their efforts to bring it back and have this whole two night tournament have been wasted, which won't do the competition any good in the future. Much like the Intercontinental and United States championships, the audiences will care less about these accolades if nothing is done with them. It would also make the other participants look bad if they fail to elevate the King of the Ring as something that can truly change someone's career in contemporary WWE. It's one thing to rattle off the previous winners and talk about what they did after they won the King of the Ring, but what does any of that mean in the current landscape? Dean Ambrose already needs wins to get his momentum close to where it was last year, and it wouldn't look good for a guy like him if he's seen kicking around in a frivolous tournament that doesn't do much for the winner. Things like this need to start mattering again in WWE so it doesn't look like the midcard talent is just floating in limbo. How can they bring respectability to the tournament? It's all in how they use Barrett from here, and that brings us to the final point...
