4 Ups & 2 Downs From Ultima Lucha Dos - Night 2

Condolences to Mr. Cisco's family.

Sexyy Star

Last week, Lucha Underground’s biggest event of the year opened up with a tournament for one of Dario Cueto’s unique opportunities. It was a fun show that ended with a cruel twist.

This week LU only delivered two matches, but both of them were solid, and surprisingly less violent than what we witnessed in last year's finale. One of the matches saw a hunter battle death, and the other delivered a new Gift of the Gods Champion. Neither were match of the year candidates, but both delivered storyline payoffs and good in-ring action.

The first two episodes of Ultima Lucha have been pretty entertaining so far, with next week's two hour finale likely to be violent and insane. They made a couple of strange choices this week to set up their biggest night of the year, but nothing that was overly harmful.

Now let’s get ready to ring the bell, and go through the four ups and two downs from Lucha Underground’s second night of Ultima Lucha Dos.

Downs...

2. Lack Of Promos

Mil Muertes King

It’s a bit tough for Lucha Underground to get everything across that they need to within the span of an hour (closer to 44 minutes with commercials), but a big thing they’ve overlooked at Ultima Lucha is giving some promo time to the wrestlers to set up their matches.

Pentagon Jr. vs. Matanza is set to main event their biggest show of the year, but there’s been very little hype for it. There’s a built in story of Pentagon coming back to avenge his lopsided loss, but last night (or week one) would have been a good time to hear from him. Since Matazna doesn’t talk, Cueto could have done the job for him, but they went in a different direction with his character this week.

The match will likely be a very good one between the two competitors, but a bit of hype for the company's version of the WrestleMania main event would have made the showdown feel more special.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
