4 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE NXT UK (15 April)
3. A New Dawn
Isla Dawn picking up a win over Emilia McKenzie likely came as quite a surprise to many watching NXT UK, considering McKenzie is the next hot prospect in the brand. Still, it was a solid little match that had some nice spots.
Working a similar style of bout to last week’s NXT UK Prelude tag bout, Dawn executed a calculated attack on the former Millie McKenzie by tearing her down limb from limb. The real star here was, of course, Emilia. Aside from a sloppy Spear in the middle of the match, her work was exquisite here. That she didn’t get the win with that back suplex, dropping Dawn on her neck, Is crazy.
A Call of the Quarters marked the three count for Isla Dawn, giving her a huge win that she, quite frankly, needed desperately. Giving Emilia McKenzie the win here would have been far easier for NXT UK given that she’s still a fairly new star officially. By having Isla win, however, it provides leeway for this story arc going forward. That Women’s Championship bout between McKenzie and Kay Lee Ray will have to wait.
