This column cut a lot of slack to the Bloodline and 946 last week – or better yet, the writers who scripted them – for delivering some truly cringe “gang” promos as they tried to sound hard while speaking with these comical terms.

On Monday, they dialed this way back, mainly because it wasn’t a show-long angle that resulted in multiple cuts to the back. The Usos were backstage lamenting the fate of their rental car when Jacob Fatu appeared and dropped some street talk before the three of them competed to see who could use “play” the most in the next 60 seconds, as they kept talking about “running the play,” asking what the play was, and divulging what said play was. It was an embarrassing race to the bottom.

Worse, the Bloodline went through all of this, only to find out a bit later that 946 apparently hadn’t even made the trip to Mexico City, thus negating their entire little ordeal.

This was just bad stuff, sounding exactly like it was written by middle-aged, white middle-class blokes trying to envision what street slang sounds like in 2026.
