4 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (4 July - Results & Review)

1. Erm…What Happened Here?

Trish Stratus Jade Cargill

What the hell was up with that follow up segment with Jade and Stratus? Cargill said, “I see you have a title match at Evolution” before saying she'd see Trish at SummerSlam. Ern...you were out there when that was announced, Jade. Was this taped before the in-ring skit and slotted into the wrong part of the show, or something? That's how it seemed.

If so, then that's the worst of WCW levels of poor editing and show formatting. WWE could do with moving away from skits that present the women's division babyfaces in this manner anyway. How often do you see that? Two faces talk about potentially working a match as opponents and come across as the most snide/bitchy humans on the planet.

This was an unnecessary insert that added nothing do the show, barely made a lick of logical sense considering Cargill was in the ring with Trish moments before, and didn't do much to portray these stars as likeable. Stratus is over-confident for a part-timer returning yet again, Jade apparently forgot what had just happened, and Tiffany Stratton is presented like a lovely person one minute and a cutting bitch the next.

Pick a lane, writers!

In theory, Jade vs. Trish would be a fabulous opportunity for both, but not if it's snippy babyface vs. snippy babyface. Surely, WWE had to make a choice. Either Cargill skipped the in-ring segment entirely, or they deleted this pre-tape because it didn't have a place after the announcement in front of fans (and Jade herself).

Puzzling.
