4 Ups & 4 Downs For WWE Raw (27 Oct - Results & Review)
Women's tag title match finishes strong, Punk snipes Jey, Breakker falls off.
WWE Raw continued its bumpy, uneven ride on Monday night with another mixed-bag episode that set the table nicely for its big match this weekend and delivered a hot main event but also dropped the ball with one of its major storylines and fumbled a couple of other areas.
Saturday Night’s Main Event taking place just three weeks after Crown Jewel – and the unplanned World Heavyweight Championship vacancy – has compressed storylines and complicated booking plans, but that doesn’t excuse every issue that has cropped up.
The Vision seemed poised for a major shift after Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed dispatched Seth Rollins two weeks ago, but they have come across as a neutered upper-mid-card act rather than a team on the precipice of the main event. Breakker, especially, is being betrayed by poor writing that has dramatically changed his character from an unhinged badass to a calm, almost demure figure, asking an oracle for advice.
WWE’s trope of unsatisfying endings to number one contender’s matches continued, while the Usos’ acting abilities (or lack thereof) were on display.
At the same time, the women’s tag team division dominated the remainder of the show, with Asuka owning every segment in which she appeared, and the main event tag title match delivering in the clutch. CM Punk’s “little bro” routine with Jey Uso, and Dominik Mysterio’s scene-stealing antics rounded out some solid moments for this week’s effort.
Overall, a positive show that built interest in short order for the World Heavyweight Championship match, and closed strong with a hot main event that also set up a future tag title match that will be a must-see affair.
