4 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (12 Dec - Results & Review)

3. 'Young OG' Shows Up

Je'Von Evans The Miz

Admittedly, it was palmed foreheads all round when Michael Cole pointed out that The Miz has no singles match wins in 2025, then immediately tried to paint Je'Von Evans beating him as massive. That's a minor gripe though. It was an oversight from a normally switched on play by play man, and it didn't harsh the buzz Je'Von must've been feeling.

He toppled Miz in a good back and forth bout.

It was clear to see see (more so for those who watch the sometimes controversial Evans on NXT) that the high flyer slowed his roll just a little so Miz could keep up and do his thing, but that was appreciated. This adaptability shows that Je'Von can tweak his game to suit whomever he's in the ring with - he isn't just a one match dude who works his spots without context. That's good to know. He isn't some spot-spamming robot.

Ultimately, a lot of things on this week’s SmackDown had a one off or exhibition vibe, but it’d be hard to discredit how well this pair worked together or be mad at Evans scoring a victory. The end result will stand him in good stead going forwards on the show. Random pitch: Stick him in there vs. Ilja Dragunov and let them fly. Perhaps literally.

That pair had a fun match back on NXT in April 2024. It was on the shorter side, but they've got way more to offer on a bigger platform. Triple H will be looking for ways to pad out 3 hour SmackDowns in the new year, so why not Je'Von vs. Ilja for the United States Title eh?
