4 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (27 March - Results & Review)
Ups...
4. Too Battered & Bruised To Fight
Personally, this writer actually likes that both Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre were willing to fight one another but knew they had broken bodies on Friday night and that it would've been a bad idea. Both men sold their war wounds after last week's fall, then Nick Aldis put them in an “Unsanctioned Match” at WrestleMania 42.
Hell In A Cell was rumoured going into SmackDown, but WWE went with this gimmick bout instead. In fairness, that "Unsanctioned" thing will be some fight, and it should prove the ideal way to level Fatu up again. Let's be honest, he has to win and win big. Drew is taking some time off to go film Highlander anyway, so cementing Jacob as a major player makes the most sense.
WWE's formatting was top notch here. McIntyre arrived at the building and admitted he hadn't come to fight but to find out what his fate would be come 'Mania. Then, Fatu said he wanted to address the situation in front of the people and marched out to the ring. That's when Aldis made the match. It was slickly handled from start to finish, and the best thing about this is that neither McIntyre nor Fatu need to get physical before Vegas.
They've been there, done that. Resting up so they can tear one another to pieces under the brightest lights sounds like the best course of action. Maybe one more sit-down promo backstage with a pull apart brawl would work, but there's no need for them to work any proper physicality.
Let their words and visible limping carry things.
