4 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2025 - Sunday (Results & Review)

4. The Eddie Tribute Match

WWE SummerSlam 2025 AJ Styles Dominik Mysterio

Honestly, had WWE worked the Eddie Guerrero references into the story between AJ Styles and Dominik Mysterio before Sunday, their Intercontinental Championship match could have worked a lot better.

Styles doing solid comedy patter on Raw in recent weeks helped create interest in this feud, but there was nary a mention of Eddie until AJ showed up in a lowrider at SummerSlam, and the announcers pointed out that it was the 20th anniversary of the Custody of Dominik Mysterio match between Guerrero and Rey Mysterio.

From there, though, they were off to the races, with Styles wearing tights reminiscent of Eddie’s gear that night. Dominik went for the Three Amigos as usual, while Styles attempted a frogsplash. Both men did the Eddie “chair fake-out” behind the referee’s back as well.

In the end, it was Dominik stealing a page from Uncle Eddie at WrestleMania 20, unzipping his boot so that when AJ applied the Calf Crusher, the boot slipped off and Mysterio used it to wallop Styles, then finished him with a frogsplash.

As a match, this wasn’t much, but as a sub-main event and some light fare, this worked just fine.
