4 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Crown Jewel 2024 (Results & Review)

1. Way To Undersell The Moment

One would think that WWE, which prides itself on capital-M moments and really letting those moments breathe, would play up a significant happening to the hilt, shining a spotlight on it with Michael Cole losing his mind on commentary.

And then, there it was: Solo Sikoa pinned Roman Reigns in the center of the ring, just the third time that’s happened since December 2019, and it was met with a wet fart from the announcers. Aside from Corey Graves noting that the air had been sucked out of the arena, there was no mention of the rarity of this instance (Cody Rhodes pinned Reigns at WrestleMania 40, and Jey Uso pinned Roman in a tag match at Money in the Bank 2023).

The entire premise of this Bloodline Civil War is that Solo believes he is the heir and true Tribal Chief. Pinning Roman in the middle of the ring – with only tacit interference from Tonga Loa – was a huge feather in Sikoa’s cap. It should have registered as a legit shock, an opportunity to put Solo over as the successor to the throne and question Roman’s claim to the Head of the Table.

Instead, a few seconds passed with boilerplate commentary before the new Bloodline attacked Reigns and everything broke down, only for Sami Zayn to get involved as everything moved on to the next story beat.

This was a huge missed opportunity to take a minute and register the significance before jumping to the next chapter of the tale. WWE typically doesn’t make this mistake, which is why it’s worth pointing out.
