4 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Sept 18)

1. Intercontinental Chemistry

If you only watch one WWE match this week, make it Sami Zayn vs. AJ Styles on SmackDown. That was the kind of bout that's bound to show up on 'hidden gems' lists in years to come. Everything they did made sense, and it shows how much talent they have that Sami and AJ were able to make a heel vs. heel match so unmissable.

Zayn is a riot as the delusional ex-IC main man who thinks he's still champ, and Styles is simply one of the best workers ever. Sprinkle in a little Jeff Hardy ladder magic and the promise of a three-way ladder bout for the belt at Clash Of Champions and you have one hell of a TV segment.

Good wrestling, strong mic work and a purpose to it all. Tick, tick, tick.

Hardy being the one to fire out the challenge is also logical - he's keen to redeem himself in the eyes of the audience and prove to everyone that he's not full of sh*t when he says he's a fighting champion. His ladder match pitch was consistent with his recent booking.
