Only bad-faith critics would be wishing their negative reactions to someone’s push continue and the person fails. But wanting good things for wrestlers shouldn’t lead you to sugarcoat things when they aren’t working.

And for Tegan Nox, it feels like things are coming too little, too late. Nox returned to WWE late last year and did little of anything before switching brands this year. She finally started getting some TV time this fall, but her matches have played mostly to silence, as fans had no real reason to get behind her.

Monday night, WWE finally put together a decent video package for her, two months after she started getting a featured role on Raw. And then she had a decent match against Piper Niven that got a modest reaction at best from fans. Once again, it wasn’t the kind of match that viewers walked away from thinking they had just seen a future world champion in action.

It’s a shame to watch WWE actually trying with someone, but they dawdled so much with Nox and then fumbled their honest attempt to get her over that it all might be for naught. One can only hope that’s an incorrect assessment, but it really feels like you’re watching a push for mediocrity rather than superstardom.
