4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (June 18)

2. Kevin Owens Beat Cesaro In A Competitive Match

This was one of those matches that got people excited just reading the spoilers because they both spent a lot of time in Ring of Honor together as well as other indies. To see this match on the WWE stage sounded really cool, but it could have been a lot better. The complaint is that the match got about 10 minutes with a commercial break in there as well. If they were given 15-20 minutes they probably could have one of the best matches in the entire company if there was a good story behind it. Instead, the match was set up by Cesaro challenging Owens during an interview backstage. It's tough to have a great match with no build on a show that people don't get excited for. While the match was good, there really wasn't a point where people thought Cesaro might win. The crowd was pretty dead for the match in part because there was no babyface comeback by Cesaro, nor did it look like Cesaro could win. When it looked like he might get close to that, Owens pinned him clean with the Popup Powerbomb. The fact that this match happened is a positive and a definite "up" on the show. It's just that it could have been more of a must see match instead of something that was solid on an episode of Smackdown that didn't have much else that was exciting.
