5 Biggest Beneficiaries Of Roman Reigns' WWE Suspension
1. Finn Bálor
It had been rumored since the start of the year that WWE was determined to do the long awaited John Cena vs. Roman Reigns match over the WWE World Championship at SummerSlam, but obviously, the brand split caused those plans to change. With the WWE Championship on SmackDown, Raw was in need of a top title, and thus the Universal Championship was born.
It looked like Reigns vs. Seth Rollins II was set to be the bout on tap for the biggest party of the summer, but due to Reigns getting himself suspended, he was switched out of that spot. Finn Bálor replaced him, and on the night of his highly anticipated main roster debut, he won a loaded Fatal 4-Way match, achieving the impossible when he beat Reigns in clean fashion to advance to SummerSlam to face Rollins.
Chris Jericho said himself on his own podcast that for months, he was penciled in to go up against Bálor at the August extravaganza, but WWE decided to go in a different direction the night The Demon King arrived on Raw. Sure, Bálor may now be sitting on the sidelines with an injury, but you can surely expect him to reclaim that Universal Championship and No. 1 babyface status upon his return to the ring next year.
