5 Biggest Contenders To Ric Flair's World Title Record
5. John Cena

Front of the pack nipping at the heels of Ric Flair’s obscenely expensive loafers is the franchise player of modern WWE, John Cena, with an impressive 15 World Titles of his own.
Since debuting in WWE some 14 years ago, Cena has held the WWE’s top prize an average of almost once a year. Barring any catastrophic career-ending injury, a fit and healthy John Cena seems almost destined to chase WWE’s World Title crown at least once more before he hangs up the boots and is the bookies’ favourite to at least tie the “Nature Boy”.
The re-emergence of another “World Championship” on the scene would surely see Cena thrust into the title picture once again and victory in such as situation would put him level with Naitch at 16 World Championships apiece. However, mounting injuries, growing outside commitments and rumours of a lighter schedule add an interesting element of doubt to what would otherwise be a foregone conclusion.
Nevertheless, Cena is closer than any other man on the precipice of Flair’s coveted record and it seems almost inevitable that the Nature Boy’s historic figure of 16 will soon be equalled or even finally broken by the WWE’s golden boy.
Cena’s reputation within WWE as a loyal company man and a tireless workhouse outside the ring make him a strong candidate to hold the gold once more. At 39 years old with rumours of “winding down” gaining more and more volume with each pressing year, another reign on top could be seen as the perfect end to Cena’s career – whenever that may be.
The real question is how many titles can “The Champ” rack up before then?
