5 Biggest Contenders To Ric Flair's World Title Record
4. Triple H

Cena isn’t the only horse in the race for Flair’s record and the apple certainly doesn’t fall far from the evolutionary tree when it relates to who’s next in line.
None other than former stablemate, Triple H, currently rests just behind Cena’s 15 World Titles with 14 championship victories overall. A substantial amount of booking influence, the prospect of two World Titles looming and an unclaimed WWE Championship rematch stemming from his title loss at WrestleMania all add credence to Triple H’s case as a legit record contender.
Triple H is a great wrestler deserving of many of his reigns on top as champion, however, his position behind the camera has put many of his title reigns into question; casting a cloud over several of his past victories. The fact that Triple H has ten more World Titles to his name than say Shawn Michaels and six more than the ever-present Undertaker seems a little disproportionate and naturally raises a few eyebrows when considering his seat at the McMahon dinner table.
From a political standpoint, bookers within the wrestling business that have also been active in-ring competitors have long had an affinity for placing themselves in favourable positions on the card. Dusty Rhodes was notorious for such back in the 80s, Kevin Nash did so with questionable execution in the late 90s and Jeff Jarrett made a pretty solid World Title record of his own doing the very same in TNA in the early 2000s.
For a modern day example, look no further than the champ walking into the main event of the biggest WrestleMania of all time earlier this year for your answer. Still not convinced? How about Triple H being the only man to gain a pinfall victory over Brock Lesnar in the last three years? Or inexplicably defeating Sting in his long awaited WWE debut at WrestleMania? The list goes on but, suffice to say, active wrestlers with booking influence are not what’s best for business.
With such a strong booking influence, unfinished main event issues with both Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns and the likelihood of two World Titles potentially up for grabs, the prospect of “The Game” wearing the gold one more time could be more of a probability than a possibility.
Whether or not Triple H would use his influence to overtake his close friend and mentor remains to be seen.
