5 Biggest Winners & Losers From WWE Raw (8 Aug)

5. Winner: Sheamus

Sheamus lost to Cesaro for the second week in a row, but finds himself listed in the “winner's” column after finally receiving some much-needed character direction from WWE Creative.

The Irishman has been struggling for a long-time, and fans had grown sick of the sight of him long before the disastrous League of Nations stable completely killed his star power. Few workers are as stale as Sheamus on the moment, but he’s not unsalvageable. He remains an under-rated in-ring performer, and putting him in a program with a gifted technician like Cesaro makes perfect sense. The duo have proven that they can put-on a good match together, and whether or not Sheamus’ main event involvement will see the Reigns vs. Rusev US Title match become a four-way, him and Cesaro will settle their differences with another exciting one-on-one clash.

WWE are playing-up Sheamus’ frustration at being unable to win, but they’re not doing it in a mopey, depressing fashion. “Losing streak” angles often fall into that territory, but no: Sheamus got right back up after his loss and cost his rival the United States Championship. His bitterness towards The Swiss Superman isn’t going away any time soon.
