5 Biggest Winners & Losers From WWE Raw (Oct 17)

1. Winner: Goldberg

There’s little to suggest that Goldberg and Brock Lesnar are going to put on an epic match at Survivor Series. Bill hasn’t wrestled in 12 years, and while their WrestleMania XX match was marred by external circumstances, it was an absolute stinker. Goldberg is now 49 years old, and he was never known as a particularly refined in-ring performer, so fans are entirely justified in their scepticism towards the match. It likely won’t live up to the hype, and Goldberg’s career may end on a whimper.

That being said, last night was electric. Goldberg cut what might have been the best promo of his whole career, and his presence on last night’s Raw closed a so-so show on an almighty high.

Goldberg received a gigantic pop from the moment his music hit and footage cut to him stomping through the backstage corridors. The entire building chanted his name in unison, and the former WCW was legitimately tearing up at the tremendous reception. His passion was evident throughout, and his return couldn’t have gone any better.

Goldberg recognised his past failings in WWE, but said he missed being a superhero for the kids, because there aren’t many of those around anymore. The best part, however, was that his wife and son were finally watching in a wrestling ring for the very first time, and as Goldberg accepted Lesnar’s challenge, it was impossible not to get behind him.

Who knows how the match itself will go down, but Goldberg and WWE are off to an incredible start. From the crowd reaction to Bill’s passionate delivery, there was nothing to complain about in Raw’s show-closing promo whatsoever.
