5. Winners: Breezango

It remains to be seen whether or not WWE’s decision to split their tag and women’s rosters during the Draft was a good idea, but SmackDown’s tag scene looked particularly thin that night. American Alpha and The Usos are credible units, but they’d be competing with the likes of The Ascension and Hype Bros on a weekly basis, and with little opposition, it was hard to see how they’d ever gain traction in WWE.
Breezango were at the bottom of the pile. A thrown-together union between two misfiring style-over-substance gimmicks, Fandango and Tyler Breeze were widely assumed to prop the division up as enhancement talent. They’d done next to nothing to separate themselves from the pack, but things took a step in the right direction last night.
They might’ve lost to American Alpha, but Breezango are getting over. Their work got a decent reaction on SummerSlam’s pre-show, and they’re showing real signs of developing into a cohesive tag team. Their control sequences last night helped build doubt in what looked like a squash match on-paper, and their on-screen chemistry continues growing on a show-by-show basis. Maybe there’s something in this goofy little tag team after all...
