5 Huge Predictions For Tony Khan's Important AEW Dynamite Announcement

5. Forbidden Door 2

AEW and NJPW announced Forbidden Door last April, roughly two months ahead of the 26 June super-show. Confirming the second incarnation's existence would therefore come a few weeks ahead of schedule, assuming it is to become an annual tradition, though there's little reason to assume the companies won't attempt to repeat their United Center success.

Khan said the following of Forbidden Door II during a recent In The Kliq podcast appearance:-

"We have a great partnership with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. They're doing more events in America and we're working closely with them as good partners, and of course we always build up this big event, AEW and New Japan coming together, Forbidden Door, and I think Forbidden Door 1 was a big success. We're looking forward to doing it together again. They send a lot of their top stars to AEW and to Ring of Honor, and I love working with them. I think it's been a great relationship and there's a lot of trust between the parties."

Later, Khan stated that he thinks fans will be able to look forward to it sometime this summer.

This longer announcement window would give NJPW and AEW more time to prepare and build to the pay-per-view. If the original Forbidden Door failed in any department, it was that a lukewarm build left several key matches feeling undercooked ahead of the show. This wasn't a problem on the night itself, with AEW delivering one of the best events in its young history, though there are lessons to be learned for round two.

One would imagine Forbidden Door II would feature a women's wrestling crossover, given the IWGP Women's Title's creation since the first show. Mercedes Moné vs. Jamie Hayter could justify the pay-per-view cost alone.
