5 NJPW Wrestlers Who Must Open The Forbidden Door To AEW Next
1. Kota Ibushi
Ideal match: vs. Kenny Omega
Kota Ibushi vs. Kenny Omega? Go on then you dirty b*stard.
There is at least one more chapter to be written in the Golden Lovers' arc. Reuniting in 2018, Ibushi and Omega drew the New Japan fanbase to tears, having previously not been a cohesive unit since defeating Danshoku Dino and Konosuke Takeshita in 2014. Though they only wrestled a total of twenty-one matches back together, twelve of which were standard two-on-two tag team matches, the reunion was a key moment for professional wrestling that year.
That's why, if the 'Golden Star' is to head to All Elite Wrestling, it has to be against Kenny Omega.
This is either an All Out or a Double Or Nothing main event; a near forty-minute epic for the AEW World Title. For the diehard fans, you can literally book the match, not promote it at all on AEW programming, and fans would still tune in to watch the match of the year. That's how much depth there is to this story; people care.
Kota's a difficult one to pin down. He's wrestled exclusively for New Japan since 2018, and signed a lifetime contract with the promotion in 2019, essentially confirming he'll never wrestle anywhere else again. This could, however, not apply to promotions who've got a working relationship with New Japan.
Ibushi vs. Omega needs a final chapter.
