5 Positives & 5 Negatives Heading Into WWE Money In The Bank 2017
8. Negative: Showcasing Big Matches As Throwaways
One pernickety side effect of a star-studded field for the Money in the Bank ladder match has been the way in which that field has been featured in the lead-up to the event.
With three babyfaces and three heels set to square off for the briefcase, WWE has reverted to its tried-and-trusted formula of pitting various combinations of good guys against bad guys in the weeks building up to this Sunday’s PPV.
That in turn has meant that certain scenarios that could otherwise have been saved for a bigger stage have simply become throwaways on random SmackDown episodes. We’ve seen first-ever main roster meeting between Shinsuke Nakamura and Kevin Owens - a match that could easily have headlined a PPV - given away on free TV, as well as the teaming of Nakamura and AJ Styles in tag team action, which surely deserved more hype than it received.
Granted, these pairings can easily be revisited at a later date, but they’ve now lost that ‘first time ever’ factor that would have made them even more special.
