5 Positives And 5 Negatives Heading Into NXT TakeOver: Toronto
7. Negative — A Lack Of Female Challengers
Truth be told, this point probably explains why we haven’t seen so much of Asuka as of late, because looking at the NXT roster, she doesn’t have a great deal of competition coming her way.
It’s something of a transitional time for the female division down in developmental, with each of the four Horsewoman, plus Carmella, Alexa Bliss, and Nia Jax all now competing on the main roster. Obviously that’s left a number of gaps, and as of yet no one’s really been able to fill them.
Ember Moon looks like the best-placed candidate to eventually challenge for Asuka’s belt, but considering that she only debuted in August it’s probably a bit too soon to be pushing her straight into a title programme. Meanwhile, Billy Kay and Peyton Royce have shown promise, but other than that there isn’t really sufficient depth in the NXT women’s roster.
Luckily they've found a solution to this problem (more on that one later) but with the female division in need of time to rebuild, you could certainly argue that this has been slightly detrimental to the build-up of TakeOver: Toronto.
