5 Reasons Lesnar vs Cena At Night Of Champions Was WWE Match Of The Year

2. Lesnar Had A Strategy

We should all love the idea that Brock Lesnar as WWE Champion ensures that, for as long as he is champion, that main event matches will actually look like legitimate fights. Lesnar, like any other fighter heading into a title match, had a strategy. Too often, WWE Championship matches look like paint-by-numbers spotfests, but Lesnar ensures something above and beyond the expected. The idea that the match can end at any time due to the champion's sheer brutality and game plan that throws caution to the wind is exciting. Cena hitting the Attitude Adjustment in the first minute? Cool, because Lesnar was caught off-guard. Had Cena won the match in the first minute, it wouldn't have been surprising, either, and everyone would tune into Raw for the obvious rematch. However, Lesnar's strategy of breaking down the arm (a surprise!) then slowly working back into the body strikes and suplexes from before added intrigue to the match. It was a more nuanced watch than what WWE World Heavyweight Championship matches had become, which was certainly impressive.
