5 Reasons Why WWE SummerSlam 2018's Main Event Will Fail
2. It's Been Done To Death
Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns is a match that has headlined not one, not two but three separate WWE supershows over the past three years. Matches at WrestleMania 31, 'Mania 34 and on the Greatest Royal Rumble excursion this past April were all solid, and yet there's been no marked improvement on general quality.
Together, Reigns and Lesnar have their formula, and they haven't deviated from it.
Brock beats the tar out of a fired up Roman, who then roars back with a temporary comeback before tasting bitter, heart-wrenching defeat and looking for all the world like a scolded puppy dog afterwards. It's a story that, unfortunately for WWE, has been done to death by this point, and that boredom won't be tempered by a Reigns' win.
Perhaps that's what the company are banking on. At SummerSlam, a Roman win may get a surprised pop from the audience, partly because they'll know the interminable saga of Reigns chasing the champion will be over. That said, it's not exactly ideal for fans to cheer out of relief rather than happiness, but they've witnessed everything this combo have to offer.
