This match is a true thing of beauty. Nakamura's final IWGP Intercontinental Championship defence and AJ's last match with the company, for over half an hour these two put on the dream match that many expected, that many hoped and dreamed for. A fantastic mix of psychology and sheer wrestling ability, AJ came into the match with a back injury and it was played up immediately, with him feigning injury in order to gain the advantage on Nakamura. Shinsuke swiftly moved his attack to the back, eliminating Styles' possum playing in the process. The counters to counters throughout were a dream to watch, including one particularly impressive exchange that AJ counter an armbar into his calf killer submission. Nakamura picked up the win at the last with two vicious Boma Ye knees, and the two showed mutual respect after the match. The match set the bar improbably high for wrestling matches in 2016, be they in Japan, the US, Mexico or wherever. As far as goodbyes go, this was pretty special. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3krl9a
Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
