5 Things To Watch On WWE Network This Week
2. The Final Women's Title Match For Three Years
The WWF's decision to abolish their Women's Title division in late-1995 coincided with Alundra Blayze's move to WCW. There, she famously hurled the WWF belt into a trash can, and she wouldn't return to WWE until her Hall of Fame induction in 2015.
Now, you can watch her final WWF match on the Hidden Gems portion of the Network. It'd actually be the last Women's Title bout under the company umbrella until 1998.
Right before the promotion taped an episode of Superstars on 21 November '95, Blayze faced Japanese worker Lioness Asuka (no, not that Asuka) in a solid seven-to-eight minute dark match. It's interesting to see how far American female wrestling has come since these days too. Although Alundra was considered one of the best back then, her work never matched the speed or intensity of women like Charlotte Flair, Asuka or Becky Lynch today.
That doesn't make the match unwatchable, and it's also a curious peek at how WWF fans were conditioned to react at the time. Most in attendance here are polite with their applause yet clearly not invested.
