5 Ups & 10 Downs From WWE WrestleMania Raw (March 28)
9. RIP Viking Raiders
It’s bad enough that WWE can barely be bothered to care about tag team wrestling, but leave it to the company to take one of the teams that were one of the most feared and turn them into a 30-second joke.
The Viking Raiders have been little more than cannon fodder lately, but they’re still an intimidating duo who could be heated up for a feud. Well, they were an intimidating duo.
Monday, Erik & Ivar were sacrificed to Omos in a handicap match that saw Erik eat a single clothesline and then roll to the floor clutching his head and take a count-out loss. (If this was a legit injury, then that mutes the criticism somewhat.) Ivar then jumped onto the apron and was kicked off, the single boot enough to put him out of action.
Just like that – with two basic moves – Omos levelled a tag team that was once one of the more promising duos in WWE, a hybrid of power and agility.
Now they’re jobbers, which raises the question: Why couldn’t they just have gotten two local talents to eat that loss? Seriously, there was no need for taking the Raiders out like that if they weren’t going to get any offense in whatsoever.
