5 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE SmackDown (5 July - Results & Review)

1. DIY Win Out

What a win this was for Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano. Best of all, it's a title victory that has purpose on the losing side too - Austin Theory and Grayson Waller had to hit the accelerator on their split (it's time), so taking the belts from them was the correct call. Now, that implied Theory babyface turn can hit high gear.

Austin saved Grayson and stopped him from tapping out, but then had to tap out himself at the same time. That's a stick Waller will beat him with relentlessly in coming weeks. 'I was always there for you, son, but...when push came to the shove, you quit. You're a coward!'. The story writes itself, and it should galvanise support behind Theory.

Holding the straps vindicates everything DIY have been saying since landing on the main roster too. They were NXT stand outs, but never really got going on Raw or SmackDown. Both have almost certainly peaked as WWE acts (especially individually), but this is a nice moment for them.

The fact it feeds into a split story for their rivals is satisfying.
