5 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE WrestleMania SmackDown (Mar 31)

3. Story Is King

Sheamus and Drew McIntyre vs. Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci would be one of the best tag matches of the entire year under different circumstances. However, WWE had a story to tell here, and it was more important than anything else. That's fine, and it's hardly like the bout was bad.

Building tension between old pals/rivals Drew and Sheamus was the main aim.

Admittedly, even thought words like "banger" have been thrown around willy nilly since it was announced, their coming three-way vs. GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Title did need an extra slice of context to put a bigger question mark over exactly who's coming out on top. WWE achieved that with this tag.

The match was tidy, tension threatened to boil over, and now the IC Title could be anyone's at WrestleMania. That's a real win for the agents responsible for formatting this one, and for Drew, Sheamus and GUNTHER over the weekend.
