5 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (21 Feb - Results & Review)
3. “You Asked For This!”
One of the best things about villainous Kevin Owens is that he's the kind of heel who believes he's 100% in the right about everyone else. They're all dirtbags, not him, and he'll use whatever warped logic he needs to when convincing himself of that. This simplicity isn't a negative - it makes following KO's antics more fun, because fans know he'll always find a way to spin despicable behaviour.
On Friday, Owens went super creepy by hanging about outside Sami Zayn's house and filming his family through the window. No, this won't turn him into some DDP-style stalker gimmick, but it proves the point of KO's delusion. He can't see that this is going too far, because he thinks Sami is the one to blame. In his promo, Kev said he couldn't believe Zayn didn't just take his deserved punishment and move on without trying to get revenge.
Now, KO has to brutalise him and cause pain for Sami's family by doing so. "You asked for this. It's all your fault", he said. That psychopathic chat is really working for Owens as a character. Like the intro says, he didn't need 25 minutes to put his point across. So, maybe The Rock should've been taking notes. Ouch! That's pretty harsh, granted.
It's valid though. Kevin managed to put across everything he needed to put across in just a few short minutes. The location, his panicked bubbling that almost threatened to turn into full on tears, and the coming brutality of their "Unsanctioned" match at Elimination Chamber helped make KO vs. Sami one of SmackDown's finest segments.
