5 Ups & 4 Downs from WWE Raw (16 June - Results & Review)

2. Wins And Losses Matter?

Goldberg Gunther

For those who love him, Goldberg returning to challenge Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event had to be a dream come true, a no-nonsense babyface showing up to demand a match against the bruising heel champ.

But from a storyline standpoint, what gives here? Gunther insulted Goldberg several months ago, and that becomes the basis for the Hall-of-Famer getting a World Heavyweight Championship match? For Goldberg’s last five matches, spanning five years, he’s had four world title matches – and he’s lost them all. He hasn’t wrestled in more than three years.

If WWE was hellbent on booking this particular match, that’s one thing, but there is no justification in storyline or in any approximation of sporting competition for Goldberg getting a world title match here. And from Gunther’s side of things, the guy regains his world title, and his first feud is against a card-carrying AARP member? Come on… this is a sideshow at best.

Thankfully, this is on Saturday Night’s Main Event, so it’s being treated as a special attraction rather than a PLE main event spectacle. And for the record, despite the grievances, Goldberg is more deserving than Logan Paul of a world title match.
