5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (27 Feb - Results & Review)
1. A Surprise Women’s Tag Title Change
Ditto for this scorcher.
Lash Legend and Nia Jax, who are collectively known as The Irresistible Forces, beat Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY to become brand new Women’s Tag-Team Champs. WWE gave all 4 women a good stretch of time, then Legend pinned Rhea to win the belts. Teaming with Jax is working for Lash, because it’s giving her time to develop as a worker and giving Nia something to do. Plus, she just pinned a top name.
Personally, this guy is slightly surprised that RHIYO dropped the belts before WrestleMania 42, but the decision will make sense if Ripley goes on to win at Elimination Chamber. Being realistic, that’s probably a lock on after this result, to be honest. Why else would creative take the straps from Rhea and IYO if she isn’t winning in Chicago, y'know?
Ripley and SKY's title reign only lasted less than 2 months, but it was an absolute joy to witness. They can look back on fine matches against the likes of The Kabuki Warriors (the 5 January Raw), Judgment Day duo Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez (Saturday Night's Main Event on 24 Jan), Giulia and Kiana James (the 6 February SmackDown) and the Lash and Nia combo both here and beforehand on the 13 Feb SmackDown.
It's been a whistle stop tour of excellence from the team, and this surely won't be the last time they hold those belts. For now though, Legend and Jax look set to roll into 'Mania with purpose, and that's a big time positive for both.
